Whitewater rafting and kayaking, open water canoeing and kayaking opportunities are also available in the area. Mountain stream trout fishing, mountain bike and horse trails are easily accesible from anywhere along the shores of Lake Hartwell.

Fishing

Most people think of fishing when you mention Lake Hartwell recreation and fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish or stripers is a great way to spend your days.

I prefer fly fishing for trout in the streams and rivers that feed Lake Hartwell, but occasionally I can't resist sitting on the shore with a line in the water. A jerk on one end of the line waiting for a jerk on the other!

Whatever fish specie you choose to target, you are sure to make a fine catch when you choose Lake Hartwell for your next fishing destination.

Camping and Hiking

Boasting more than a dozen state and local parks along its shores, the area caters to all types of campers and hikers. If you enjoy truly roughing it there are many out of the way areas that offer rustic tent camping, but there are plenty of facilities that cater to the more comfortable forms of camping with full hookups and all the amenities.

Several feature golf courses, and of course the common factor among them all is the lake itself. There are few things as relaxing to me as sitting by a crackling campfire at night and enjoying good converstaion with family and friends. The sound of the crickets, tree frogs and cicadas provide a wonderful backdrop of sound as the troubles of the workaday world fade into oblivion.

In addition to the large parks there are also many small recreation areas and several private/commercial campgrounds.
